Ultimate Blog Party 2012

Hey there! I am super excited to be participating in my first ever Ultimate Blog Party at 5 Minutes for Mom! I’m looking forward to meeting some new friends this week and discovering some great new-to-me blogs that I know are out there.

First let me introduce myself: I’m Sarah, a stay-at-home mom to my sweet, sweet boy (Sam – 8 months), wife to my favorite redhead and idea man (Jeff), and puppy mama to the two best dogs on the planet (Keiko and Mochi). I already have an About page so I’m not going to copy and paste all that info into this post. You can also see some of my most popular posts to date right here.

(On a side note, I’ve just recently made the switch over to a self-hosted blog so if you see anything that looks wonky or broken, will you please let me know? Thanks! I’m also still working on getting my new comment system fully up-to-date.)

I love lists. I’m also a sucker for those lists of random facts people write about themselves. I find them weirdly fascinating. In the hope that I am not alone in my fascination, I present to you:

Catchy title, eh? Let’s begin…

  1. My favorite color is blue.
  2. …which is obvious if you’ve ever been to my house. Or my blog.
  3. High, squeaky voices are hysterical to me.
  4. …which is probably because of watching movie trailers backwards in college while sleep-deprived.
  5. I love living in the midwest.
  6. I love living in a big (okay, medium-big) city.
  7. …but I miss cornfields, open sky, and stars like crazy.
  8. I lived at only one address until I went to college at age 18.
  9. My parents still live there.
  10. My favorite pizza toppings are grilled chicken, pineapple, and green olives.
  11. Foods should not touch each other on my plate.
  12. I almost always finish one type of food on my plate before moving onto the next item.
  13. I grew up a hardcore cat person.
  14. I married a man who is allergic to cats.
  15. As a kid, I collected business cards. (Nerd alert!)
  16. My favorite season is Fall.
  17. I am a quarter Swedish.
  18. I grew up watching classic movies from the golden age of Hollywood with my Mom.
  19. I played soccer consistently from age 7 to 22.
  20. I have a love affair with big, cozy blankets and turtleneck sweaters.
  21. Vacuuming is my favorite household chore.
  22. I love 19th century period dramas in book and movie form.
  23. I go out of my way to buy classically styled clothes rather than the latest fashion which will just change next year.
  24. When I was little, I wanted to be a veterinarian or a missionary.
  25. I don’t like coffee.
  26. I love tea, hot or cold.
  27. I’ve sprained both my ankles more times than I can count.
  28. I’ve torn the ACL in my right knee twice.
  29. But I’ve never broken a bone.
  30. I dislike talking on the phone.
  31. I love thunderstorms.
  32. I love old houses full of character and charm.
  33. My first job was delivering our weekly small-town newspaper.
  34. I am passionate about education in pregnancy and birth options.
  35. I am a Mac person.
  36. I love books, but I collect them faster than I read them.
  37. It’s impossible for me to pick a single favorite book.
  38. I generally don’t drink soda, but have a weakness for root beer.
  39. I have a green thumb, which apparently runs in the family.
  40. I share my middle name with my grandma, sister, and niece.
  41. I’m most comfortable in small groups of people.
  42. I am a homebody.
  43. I like to travel.
  44. I am a horrible speller.
  45. In high school, my English teacher (and the play director) heard me reciting “Why Can’t the English” from My Fair Lady in the hallway outside her classroom. Later, in the middle of class, she called me out directly as someone who should help out with the school play. It worked.
  46. I worked backstage in my college theatre, and was House Manager for one of the shows.
  47. I am a life-long Cubs fan.
  48. I am NOT a morning person.
  49. My first car was a white 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity named Creampuff.
  50. I have naturally curly hair, aka “My hair is naturally natural.” (Anyone know that movie quote? If you do, we’re clearly meant to be friends.)
  51. I cry easily at books, movies, and TV shows.
  52. I was a huge tomboy as a kid.
  53. I have a big weakness for sugar and chocolate.
  54. Most of my wardrobe is black, blue, or purple (or a derivative thereof).
  55. I enjoy tent camping.
  56. I can’t imagine life without my dogs.
  57. I would be lost without my calendar.
  58. I retain information about people like a sponge.
  59. I’ve never needed braces, but my teeth are full of fillings.
  60. I love puns.
  61. I’m a very heavy sleeper. My college roommate used to blow dry her hair right next to my bed in the mornings and I’d sleep right through it.
  62. When I visit the area where I grew up, my slight regional accent comes back.
  63. I was home schooled through 3rd grade.
  64. I like maps and am a good navigator.
  65. I love musicals.
  66. I’m an extroverted introvert.
  67. A random lady at the grocery store once asked me which brand of hummus was good because, “[I] look like someone who would eat hummus.” I’m not sure exactly what she meant, but it thrilled me to no end.

Okay, that’s waaaay more than enough about me. Now it’s your turn. Do we have any of these things in common? Perhaps we are opposites? Or do you just love lists like I do?

I had a great time reading through this list…and your bucket list…and your movie list.  (I am definitely a list person too!)

I could steal 31 of those comments for my own list. Not bad. No wonder I like you.

Nice! That’s pretty good considering many of them are super specific. I’m rather fond of you too.

Great list. I have lots of To Do lists – I hope that counts. Now for the rest of the day – I’m going to go through every movie I’ve ever seen to try and remember “naturally Natural”. I know I’ve heard it.

Absolutely they count! I have lots of to do lists as well. Here’s a hint on the movie: The full quote goes, “I don’t smoke. I only drink champagne when I’m lucky enough to get it. My hair is naturally natural. I live alone… and so do you.” It’s a classic, but sort of obscure. Good luck!

So the collecting business cards thing cracked me up!! I was way nerdy as a kid…and maybe still as an adult, but only a little 😉 Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I know, what kind of kid does that, right? I even had special books to store them them in… sort of like a photo album for business cards. Ha!

What a cutie Sam is… I collected business cards too when I was little.  I loved them.  I am a Katherine Hepburn fan. 😉

    • April 14, 2012

So I wasn’t the only one who did that? Sweet. Isn’t Katharine great? Glad you recognized the quote. :)

Happy Birthday Sobrina. I suggest writing a letter to yourself about what it was like being 25. Then, years later when you wonder what it was like you can open it up and find out. It's kind of like time traveling.

Hi Sarah! This is also my first year on the UBP. I am also switching to a self-hosted, am a Mac person, and…I don’t like coffee either. My favorite hot tea is PG Tips, I pack it to church and any traveling. Your blog looks great and I look forward to reading more!

I like lists, really, I do. I’m just not that good at using them? Weird. I’ve found that when I do use them, I get more done and I’m generally happier! Anyway, thanks for stopping over at Proverbs Living and saying “Hi”. I’m late to the “party” because of, well, life. Better late than never I suppose. Take care!
Btw- I really liked your list. :)
