Nursery Sneak Peak

2011 July 14
by Sarah

This would have been appropriate for Wordless Wednesday yesterday, but with our kitchen under construction and getting ready for this baby’s arrival any sort of regular blogging schedule has gone out the window lately.

The nursery is just about finished now. I’ve got paneling to put up in the closet today and then it’s just details left. I think I’ll wait to do the full room reveal after its occupant arrives as some of the wall art includes his name or hints to his name.

Adorable! I love the owl drawer handles, the blocks with animals and letters, the dog thing with clothes in it, and… okay, I love all of it! Can’t wait to finally see him and read his manual!

    Sarah —

What cute decor! Did you sew the quilt yourself (or someone for you)? It looks homemade! LOVE the Newt etc. pics! Where did you find those! I always look for “out of the box” boy stuff. So often you only can find character themed stuff for boys. I HATE that! Girl stuff is easy…but buying for a boy is so hard! We looked for months for a quilt for G’s big boy bed — couldn’t find one — so my mom and I are sewing one. Mostly owl stuff — so I LOVE your dresser handles! Where did you find those (or again — did you paint them)?
Question about your Bum Genius diapers. Did you get snaps or velcro or both? We had velcro — but I want to get snaps (hence why I sold the old ones — or am selling — only sold half so far). If you have both, please tell me which ones you like best and why after you start using them! If you ever have q’s about your cloth diapers — please ask! I most likely have researched it at some point! Are you using cloth wipes too — do you need a recipe for that?
Not too much longer for you! Praying your last few weeks will pass quickly (but only as quick as your kitchen update lasts). :)
The one piece of info that was INVALUABLE to me was to read this book: “Twelve Hours Sleep By Twelve Weeks Old,” by Suzie Giardano (sp?). You can request it through Link Ohio — through the library. I read it in one sitting — and it literally saved my sainity those first several weeks! People always suggested different books for me to read — but this one topped them all (the most comon was Baby Wise — which probably has been recommended to yo u. Just forwarning you — NOT the best book on the planet! In fact — I hated it).
You will be a great mom! I know you are worried about your labor — but really — even if it does take “forever,” it really is a short time in the grand scheme of things. It will be over before you know it, and your bundle of joy will overtake any pain you had! PROMISE!!!!! :)

Kat, I’ll do a source list in the full reveal post, but here are some quick answers:

      – Jeff’s mom made that quilt
      – the animal flash cards on the wall are Alphabeasties
      – the owl knobs are from Anthropologie (not exactly cheap!)

As for the BG 4.0s, we have two velcro and the rest snaps as well as some other brands with snaps. I wanted to try some of each and I think velcro might be easier for the church nursery. We don’t have plans to do cloth wipes right now, but we’ll see about later on.

I’ll have to check out that book – thanks! I have Happiest Baby on the Block and The No-Cry Sleep Solution. Have you read either? Let’s just say I have not read Babywise and don’t plan on it. I have good friends who swear by it, but I think I would hate it too.

      Thanks for all your encouragement!
