A New Name, A New Look

You might notice things are looking a little different around here. If you usually use a blog reader, click through and you’ll see what I mean.

Two Young Kids is officially retired and A Light from the Shadows is here to take its place. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not real great with titles. When I wanted to get back into blogging last year, I couldn’t think of anything better than Two Young Kids, and I didn’t want to put off blogging any longer while thinking of a better title. Now with our own little kid soon to make his arrival, things were bound to get even more confusing.

I was also getting tired of the old theme. I wanted something a bit cleaner and with more flexibility. Eventually I’d like to move over to a self-hosted WordPress blog, and this is a step in the right direction.

But why A Light from the Shadows? The line comes from J.R.R. Tolkien’s poem, “All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter” that first appears in The Fellowship of the Ring:

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

I love the imagery and hope in those stanzas. There’s a lot of junk that goes on in this world we live in, and my hope and desire is that my life be a light amidst the shadows. I think this is a blog title I can grow with through the changing seasons of life.

Take a look around and tell me what you think of the changes. A lot is the same, but I’ve made some tweaks and completely rewritten the About page. The header is going to be a work in progress, methinks.

    It looks really good Sarah! It looks very bright and clean. (Thanks for putting my link on here!) : )

    I love that quote from LOTR also!

    My first thought went to CS Lewis and ‘shadowlands’ although, considering my Deep Roots blog coming from that same quote, you’d think I’d have been more aware.

    Great job! Looking forward to more posts.

    Yes I immediately recognized that as Tolkien. 😀 I might have memorized that poem as a kid.

    Coming up with a blog title is so hard, at least for me. I like A Light from the Shadows.

    “Me thinks” you have done a good job with the updating of your blog! I poked around a little — I had forgot about “The List” and enjoyed seeing what’s been accomplished (so far). Keep up the wonderful blogging and pictures. I enjoy your writing so much.
