These Are A Few of My Favorite Things

2011 February 10
by Sarah

I watched The Sound of Music for the first time in a long while last month, and I’ve had “My Favorite Things” floating through my head ever since. It just seemed fitting to share some of my current faves with all of you.

Oh, and it probably goes without saying, but, just in case, no, I was not perked in any way to mention any of these products.

Kashi TLC Cheese Crackers (aka the best Cheez-Its EVER)
These bite-sized squares of deliciousness are not a new find for me, but I recently re-appreciated (is that a word?) how good they are. Over our Christmas travels I got some Cheez-Its at a gas station and was sorely disappointed. I realized then just how much I’d gotten used to Kashi’s superior version. Real cheese flavor with just the right amount of seasoning, whole grain goodness,  and no artificial ingredients! I think I could eat a whole box in one sitting.

Belly Band
My belly band has been my saving grace these last several weeks. My baby belly has been slowly expanding, not enough for maternity pants, but enough to make regular pants uncomfortable. Enter the belly band—the safe way walk around with your jeans unzipped while no one’s the wiser! I got mine at Target (in white) and will probably pick up at least one more. I actually bought my first maternity pants this week, and the belly band will help extend the length of my normal shirts after I no longer need it to keep my pants from falling down.

Trader Joe’s Cheddar Cheese Sticks
So yeah, I’m back to another food item—and another cheese item at that. Good thing cheese is a pregnancy superfood! I don’t like mozzarella string cheese so these cheddar sticks are the perfect quick snack for a protein pick-me-up. Mmmmm…

Bones

I got hooked on Bones last year after hearing it shared a lot of similarities with Castle, one of my favorite shows on TV. Netflix has all the seasons on streaming so I thought I’d just try out a couple episodes. Well, we just started season 5. Yep, I got Jeff hooked too. Hopefully we’ll be able to catch up on season 6 (the current season) in time to start season 7 with everyone else next fall. Can you say addicted?

Yoga Pants
I don’t think I’ve talked about the glories of elastic quite enough yet. I’ve quickly learned that elastic is a pregnant woman’s best friend. But seriously, who doesn’t love yoga pants, pregnant or not? I don’t think there could be a more comfortable piece of woman’s clothing. Who’s with me?

Green Goodness/Green Machine
Yeah, I like food. You got me. I bought a giant bottle of Naked’s Green Machine smoothie at Sam’s Club last month and have been hooked ever since. Well, actually, I switched to Bolthouse’s Green Goodness, but they are practically the same thing. Yeah, it looks weird, but it tastes great; I always feel so good after my morning glass. It’s a little on the expensive side, but I consider it a pregnancy indulgence/investment.

What have you been digging lately?

I’ve definitely eaten a whole box in one sitting.

Nice. I almost did a couple times, but stopped myself just before the end. Not that anyone would know if I had, but still.

I’m completely obsessed/in love with Cheez-Its so if you say these are better, I must try them. Or maybe not because it might ruin the taste of my beloved Cheez-Its. Hmm…

Yay for buying maternity pants! I actually have never owned yoga pants before which is something I need to rectify.

I thought of you and your Cheez-It obsession after I wrote that bit! I can see how it’d be a tough call for you…

You definitely have to rectify your lack of yoga pants. They are like sweatpants without the frump… pajama pants that you can wear out of the house. I have three pairs! All purchased cheaply at Marshall’s. And I bet Josh will like the look of them. 😉

Loving you list, I loved the belly band too, I will have to check out the kashi cheez-its and green machine drink, what does it taste like?

The best description I have for the taste is like a less-sweet than normal fruit smoothie. It has apple, kiwi, and mango to mask the spinach, barley grass, etc. My husband like the taste too, and it was the only thing that felt good on his sore throat a few weeks back.

I totally stopped on the way to work this morning and bought some of those crackers! Kashi granola bars were a lifesaver for me the first trimester when I was nauseous and needed to snack all the time. Looking forward to the crackers!

Yay for elastic! I went ahead and got some maternity pants (low waist kind) pretty early on, maybe 10 weeks, because I was with my mom and sister for Thanksgiving. I got more at Christmas at a consignment store. They’re still a little loose, but wear them all the time, even though I can still wear my regular pants with an elastic over the button.

And, to be thrifty since we don’t have Target around, I cut off the neck and sleeves from some of the shirts I never wear and made my own “belly bands.” They’re not quite as stretchy as the store bought kind, but I love the variety of colors. :)

I love your homemade belly band idea! I just might have to look for some thrift store shirts I can do that with.

I got caught up in Bones last year when I lived with my parents. I love everything about that show, ha 😀

Why am I not surprised? You’re a fellow Castle lover after all!
