Hello, WordPress

Back when I was in college, Xanga was a popular blogging platform. (This was before Facebook was mainstream!) It had its heyday, but now blogging has grown up and taken on a different life in these interwebs. I’m finally moving to a new blog home with what I hope is a more focused blogging voice.

This new blog will still be primarily a personal blog: a place for me to record what’s going on in life and communicate with family and friends near and far, punctuated with the occasional op-ed type piece. Hopefully Jeff will also chime in from time to time with his perspective on things.

I followed you over here :-) I noticed you have “older posts” even though you just started on WordPress. Is there a way to import posts from Xanga? I feel like I’m stuck in Xanga since I have so many years worth of posts there!

Thanks for coming over! :) Unfortunately, there isn’t a direct import from the Xanga platform. I tried a workaround I found online, but couldn’t get it to work. You might have more options for exporting Xanga posts if you’re a premium member, but I don’t know for sure. I manually copied the posts you see here since I just started blogging regularly again. WordPress does have private and password protected posts which is something I thought I’d have to give up with Xanga. Overall, I’m quite pleased with the change, but I know you have lots of posts plus pictures and video!
